Bowman Field Friends - Event 6 - 8 PM

Description: Location: Historic Control Tower - 2815 Taylorsville Rd.

June Bowman Field Aviation Heritage series program will be a very special program. We will be revealing to the public for the first time photos of Bowman Field from the 1920’s taken by Carlyle Chamberlain. We purchased these photos from a local antiques dealer who had them listed on Ebay. They include never-before-seen photos of the Bowman Field opening ceremonies from 1923. Charlie Arrington will be the presenter, and he has connected the dots from the photos (which mostly came with no captions) to newspaper articles and other documents to tell a detailed story of Bowman Fields early days. This is one not to be missed! (They all are, really).

More information from Charlie: "Unveiling the Carlyle D. Chamberlain Collection of Bowman Field Photos." Chamberlain was a photographer for the old Louisville Police Department and, in addition to his police work, he would photograph various events in the Louisville area.

He photographed Bowman Field three times during the 1920s including the dedication of Bowman Field in August 1923. His photos are an unseen, unknown treasure that will be unveiled at out June meeting. This is probably the first new collection of early Bowman Field photos that have been acquired in many years.
